Farmington based at Chicago replenish the destroyer escort's thirst-quenching larder with Coca-Cola delivered by one of 45 new International 1600 series Loastar trucks purchased by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Chicago. The 240-case capacity Sliding-door and open -side body trucks have a GVW of 18,200 lbs. and are powered by 264-cu. in 6-cyl. engines rated at 153 hp. The $15,000 fleet purchase brings to 145 the number of International units in the 330-vehicle route delivery fleet. Annual fleet milage for the total fleet of 450 trucks appoximates 4,000,000 miles. TF-1377 The International V-537 gasoline V8 engine replaces the VS-478 and VS-549 large V series in FleetStar and cab-over CargoStar medium-heavy-duty truck applications. The V-537 is produced at the International Truck engine manufacturing plant at Indianapolis, Ind. It offers 208 net hp. at 3200 RPM with 415 lb. ft. of torque at 2000 RPM in a two-barrel carburator version, and 236 net hp. at 3200 RPM and 429 lb. ft. of torque at 2200 RPM in a four-barrel version.
